Box ScoreBELTON, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler beat Concordia Texas in five sets Thursday in the First Round of the 2014 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament in Belton. The Patriots improved to 16-12 on the season while the Tornados fell to 14-13.
Rebekah Maner led the Patriots with 21 kills while Courtney Criswell added 15 and Brieanne Brown had 12. Rebecca Floyd recorded 29 assists while Baylie Wackler added 21. Defensively, Shabronda Prox led the Patriots with 30 digs with Brown adding 22. U.T.-Tyler hit 65 kills on 197 attacks for a .218 hitting percentage and recorded 101 digs and eight blocks as a team.
Katie Baker led Concordia Texas with 14 kills while Jordan Redmond had 13. Zoe Allen led the Tornados with 46 assists. Cassie Dominguez had a team-high 22 digs with Baker adding 21. The Tornados hit 51 kills on 198 attacks for a .101 hitting percentage, adding 94 digs and five team blocks.
No. 4 U.T.-Tyler will advance to face No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 p.m. in the Second Round. No. 5 Concordia Texas will move to the loser's bracket to face either No. 2 East Texas Baptist or No. 3 U.T.-Dallas on Friday, Nov. 7
