BELTON, Texas – No. 3 seed University of Texas at Dallas swept No. 2 seed East Texas Baptist 3-0 Saturday afternoon to advance to the 2014 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Tournament Championship Match on Saturday, Nov. 8th at 3 p.m.
Taylour Toso led the Comets with 12 kills while Meredith Crawford added 11. U.T.-Dallas hit 45 kills on 114 total attacks for a .289 hitting percentage in the match. Kayla Jordan recorded a match-high 41 assists. Defensively, Crawford recorded 13 digs while Samantha Schwenke had nine. Michelle Toro led the Comets' defense at the net with nine blocks in the match. UTD totaled 52 digs and 14 blocks as a team.
Adaeze Elonu led the Tigers with seven kills while Mallory Sanders and Danielle Miller each added six. Kayla Taylor recorded 19 assists as the Tigers hit 27 kills in 112 attacks for a .036 percentage. Defensively, Hannah Jones recorded a team-high 11 digs while Elonu had a team-high five blocks. ETBU totaled 49 digs and six blocks as a team.
No. 3 U.T.-Dallas will face No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor in the 2014 ASC Volleyball Tournament Championship Match today at 3 p.m. in the Mayborn Campus Center. No. 2 East Texas Baptist ends its season at 17-12.
