Women's Tennis opens spring schedule this weekend

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis team will open the spring dual match schedule with a non-conference match at nationally ranked Trinity University this Saturday, February 15th. The Cru will face the 23rd-ranked Tigers in a 9:00 AM match in San Antonio in the spring opener for UMHB. The Cru will also enter that match ranked 18th in the West Region by the ITA. Trinity is 1-1 against four-year colleges this spring and will also face St. Mary's University before taking on UMHB.

The Cru returns seven letter winners from a team that won the American Southwest Conference West Division title last season. The UMHB women went 8-3 overall and fell to U.T.-Tyler 5-1 in the semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament. AshLee Bilbo, Chaley Shiffler, Hannah Warren, Angelie Juaneza and Elizabeth Ostroff all return for the Cru women after earning ASC All-West Division honors last season. Bilbo and Shiffler were both named to this spring's ASC Preseason Players to Watch list and the UMHB women were picked to finish third in the league in the ASC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Following the match at Trinity this weekend, the Cru women will have nearly two weeks off. UMHB will return to action with the home and ASC opener on February 28th. The Cru men and women will host East Texas Baptist University for a 1:00 PM match that day at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center.
