Softball tops Howard Payne 9-0, Ragsdale throws no-hitter

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team topped Howard Payne University 9-0 Friday evening in Belton. The Cru improves to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Halle Sabo got the Cru on the board first with an RBI single, scoring Leah Brown from second base. Brown added an RBI double in the bottom of the third before Chandler Henson hit a two-RBI double with the bases loaded and two outs for a 4-0 UMHB lead. Brown hit her third double of the game in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-0 lead, followed by an RBI single from Dayton Kunz for a 6-0 lead after four. The Cru held that lead until the bottom of the fifth when Jordan Banta hit an RBI single followed by Leah Brown with a two RBI single to secure the 9-0 victory.

Rebekah Ragsdale earned the no-hitter, pitching five innings with six strikeouts and improving her season record to 1-1. UMHB totaled 13 hits, led by freshman Leah Brown. Brown went 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI and three doubles. Halle Sabo and Dayton Kunz each added two hits while Chandler Henson had two RBI. Howard Payne saw one base runner off a walk in the fourth inning.

UMHB returns to action tomorrow in a noon doubleheader against Howard Payne University at Dee Dillon Field.
