Women's Basketball falls to U.T.-Dallas

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team erased most of a 12-point second-half deficit, but the Cru comeback fell short in an 81-70 loss to U.T.-Dallas Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB finishes the regular season at 16-9 overall and 16-6 in American Southwest Conference play. The loss also drops the Cru to a #3 seed in the ASC Tournament. The Comets improve to 20-5 overall and 17-5 in the ASC with the victory.
 
UMHB took a 4-2 lead early in the first half before the Comets came to life. UTD led by as many as seven points, holding a 29-22 edge with 3:08 left in the half. The Cru would close the half with a 9-2 run to tie it at 31 at halftime. UMHB then scored the first four points of the second half to take a 35-31 lead. UTD took control at that point and built a 59-47 lead before the Cru cut it to 59-58 with an 11-0 run. The Comets would use another run, this time an 8-2 streak to push the lead back to seven and UMHB could not get any closer as UTD iced the game from the free-throw line.
 
Macy Moore led the Cru with 18 points and she added nine rebounds. Jonelle Smith had 14 points off the bench and Bridjai Chaney chipped in 12 more. UMHB shot 39 percent from the field and out rebounded the Comets 36-34 in the loss.
 
Morgan Kilgore led UTD with 19 points, but 17 of those came in the first half. Jo'Anna Davis scored 16, Ciara Guilhas added 14 and Madi Hess totaled 12. The Comets shot 60 percent in the second half and hit 10 of their first 12 shots after the break.
 
The Cru women will now advance to next weekend's ASC Championship Tournament in Tyler. UMHB will be the #3 seed and will play a 12:00 PM First Round game. The bracket for the ASC Championship Tournament will be announced next Tuesday.
