Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team begins its quest for a return trip to the NCAA postseason and a third conference championship when the Cru advances to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament this weekend in Richardson. The UMHB men are the #3 seed in the tournament and have now qualified for 15 of the 16 ASC Tournaments.

The UMHB men will enter the tournament with a 17-8 overall record and the Cru men went 15-7 in ASC play this year. The Cru also has the longest active winning streak in the league at eight consecutive victories. UMHB will open the tournament with a 12:00 PM first-round game against #6 seed Louisiana College (11-13). The winner of that game will move into a 1:00 PM semifinal game on Saturday against the winner of the Sul Ross State (11-14, #7 seed) vs. Hardin-Simmons University (17-8, #2 seed) first-round game. The other side of the bracket will see regular season champion and tournament host U.T.-Dallas (22-3, #1 seed) taking on East Texas Baptist (11-14, #8 seed) at 7:30 on Friday and Concordia Texas (16-9, #4 seed) facing #5 seed U.T.-Tyler (14-11) at 5:00 PM. The second semifinal game will be played at 3:30 PM on Saturday with the two semifinal winners meeting in the ASC Championship game at 2:00 PM on Sunday. The ASC Tournament champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.

UMHB split its regular season meetings with Louisiana College. The Wildcats took a 60-53 win over the Cru in Pineville, Louisiana in December as UMHB shot just 18 percent from the field in the second half. James Allen had 18 points and Kitrick Bell added 11 points and 17 rebounds. The Cru knocked off LC 76-56 in the rematch in Belton in January. Allen had 20 points in that win and Antonie Chaney added 17 more as UMHB shot 50 percent as a team while holding LC to 31 percent shooting.

The Cru men are 7-7 against the rest of the ASC Tournament field this season. Allen is the team's leading scorer at 18.5 points per game and he also has 71 assists and 50 steals. Jerard Graham is averaging 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, Chaney chips in 13.3 points per game and Bell averages 12.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest. The Cru is shooting 44 percent as a team and holds opponents to 41 percent. UMHB is out rebounding its opponents by seven boards a game to lead the ASC in that category.

The UMHB men won the ASC Championship in 2010 and 2008 and the Cru has advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships in six of the last seven seasons. UMHB has advanced to at least the semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament in eight straight tournament appearances. The Cru became the first ASC program to advance to the NCAA Division III National Championship Game when UMHB faced Amherst for the national title last season.
