Softball beats LeTourneau 10-2 for sixth straight victory

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team grabbed a three-game sweep of LeTourneau University Saturday with a 10-2 victory over the YellowJackets. UMHB improved to 7-5 on the season and 6-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the YellowJackets fall to 8-4 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
 
LeTourneau grabbed their first lead of the series with a two-run second inning. Dayton Kunz responded for the Cru in the bottom of second with an RBI single, scoring Tori Gomez from third base. Kelsey Vann evened the game in the bottom of the third with a single up the middle, allowing Leah Brown to score off a LeTourneau error. Myranda Hinojosa and Brown both scored off errors in the bottom of the fourth inning before UMHB used a five-run fifth inning to secure the 10-2 victory with RBI from Brown, Gomez and Vann.
 
Brown and Vann led the Cru with three hits, while Brown also had a team-high three runs. UMHB totaled 11 hits and one error in the contest. Rebekah Ragsdale took the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with four strikeouts and six hits allowed. She did not walk any of her 20 batters faced. Chloe Cooper led the YellowJackets with two hits for a team-total of six hits and four errors. Kelli Parton took the loss for the YellowJackets, allowing six hits and six runs.
 
UMHB returns to action March 7th-8th in a conference series against East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
