Softball drops doubleheader to Concordia

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a doubleheader to Concordia University (Texas) Saturday afternoon in Belton, falling 1-0 and 4-3 to the Tornados. UMHB falls to 13-12 on the season and 10-10 in American Southwest Conference play while the Tornados move to 15-12 overall and 12-8 in conference play.
 
The series' first game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh when Hanna Contreras hit a homerun to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead. UMHB was unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh, allowing Concordia to take the 1-0 victory. Myranda Hinojosa, Kourtney Bevers, Leah Brown and Dayton Kunz each recorded a hit against the Tornados. Rebekah Ragsdale pitched the entire game for UMHB, allowing three hits and striking out four batters. UMHB totaled four hits and one error while the Tornados had one run on three hits and one error.
 
In the second game, Jordan Banta, the Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game, gave the Cru an early 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third with an RBI single, scoring Kourtney Bevers from third base. Contreras responded for the Tornados with her second homerun of the day. Jessica Parish scored from first base on the play to give Concordia a 2-1 lead. Leah Brown earned a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at two. Contreras struck again in the top of the sixth with a two-run homerun to give the Tornados a 4-2 lead. Brown cut the lead to 4-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, but the Cru was unable to catch the Tornados. Brown and Banta led the Cru with two hits each. Haley Parker took the loss in the circle, striking out two batters and allowing two earned runs. UMHB totaled three runs on eight hits with one errors while Concordia recorded four runs on five hits and one error.
 
The Cru returns to action tomorrow in a 1 p.m. game against Concordia for the series' final game. UMHB will also host Trinity University on Tuesday, April 1st in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
