ALPINE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team continued its sweep of Sul Ross State University Friday with a 10-0 win over the Lobos in Alpine. The win improved the Cru to 25-12 on the season and 20-10 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 4-31 on the season and 4-26 in conference play.
Dayton Kunz drove in two runs in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.
Leah Brown and Tori Gomez hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the third to extend the Cru's lead to four, before Kunz hit a single down the middle for a five-run advantage.
Chandler Henson drove in two more runs off a double for a 7-0 advantage after three. Kunz then used a three-RBI homer in the top of the fourth to secure the 10-0 victory. Kunz led the Cru with four RBI while Henson added two. Brown had a team-high three hits and three runs scored. The Cru totaled 10 runs on 12 hits while the Lobos had three hits and one error.
Rebekah Ragsdale earned the win in the circle for the Cru, allowing three hits in five innings pitched. Ragsdale struck out seven batters and walked none. The win marked Ragsdale's 15
th of the season, breaking the UMHB Division III-era record for wins in a career with 45. Ragsdale also broke the record for strikeouts in a career with 294.
The regionally-ranked Cru was graded No. 6 in the West Region in the NCAA Division III Regional Rankings. UMHB joins fellow American Southwest Conference members University of Texas at Tyler, ranked first in the West and East Texas Baptist University, ranked second.
