Box Score Photo GalleryTyler, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis team swept through doubles and the Cru rolled to a 6-0 victory over Howard Payne University in the Quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament Friday in Tyler. UMHB improves to 11-4 on the spring with the victory. The loss ends Howard Payne's season at 4-7 overall.
Haley Hicks and Lizzie Ostroff teamed for an 8-2 victory at #3 doubles for UMHB's first point.
AshLee Bilbo and
Angelie Juaneza followed with an 8-2 win at #2 doubles and
Chaley Shiffler and
Hannah Warren battled to an 8-6 victory at #1 doubles to give the Cru a 3-0 lead going into singles. Hicks raced to a 6-0, 6-1 win at #6 singles and Ostroff won 6-2, 6-1 at #5 singles while Juaneza was winning 6-1, 6-1 at #4 singles at the same time to close out the match. Shiffler and Warren were also up a set at #1 and #3 singles when the match was stopped. Bilbo had a 6-5 lead in the first set at #2 singles when the match ended.
The Cru will now advance to face #2 seed U.T.-Dallas in a 9:00 AM Semifinal match on Saturday. The two teams did not meet in the regular season when rain washed out their scheduled match. Saturday's winner will advance to the ASC Championship Match at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
