BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept Hardin-Simmons in its regular season finale 6-1, 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 28-12 on the season and 23-10 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 21-17 overall and 18-15 in league play.
Tori Gomez got things started early for the Cru, hitting a grand slam to centerfield in the bottom of the first.
Myranda Hinojosa,
Janie Neyland and
Leah Brown all scored on the play for the Cru. Brown added another RBI in the bottom of the second, scoring Hinojosa for a 5-0 UMHB lead. Brown drove in another run with a single in the bottom of the fourth before Lauren Williams got the Cowgirls on the board with a homerun to centerfield in the top of the seventh. UMHB withheld the final Cowgirl batters, taking the 6-1 victory over Hardin-Simmons.
Myranda Hinojosa and
Leah Brown led the Cru with two hits while Hinojosa had a team-high three runs and Gomez a team-high four RBI.
Haley Parker earned the win in the circle for the Cru, allowing five hits and striking out two batters. Hardin-Simmons' Keeley Lowrance took the loss with seven allowed hits and four strikeouts. UMHB totaled seven hits and one error while the Cowgirls had five hits and four errors.
Gomez again gave the Cru an early advantage with an RBI double, scoring
Janie Neyland from second for a 1-0 lead.
Emily Marrs scored in the bottom of the second off a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead before
Chandler Henson drove Marrs in with a single to centerfield in the bottom of the fourth. The Cowgirls added a run in the top of the sixth but were unable to catch UMHB, giving the Cru the 3-1 win. Six Crusaders recorded hits in the contest while three reached home plate.
Rebekah Ragsdale earned her 18
th win in the circle, allowing six hits and striking out five batters. Both teams evened at six hits and one error.

Rebekah Ragsdale following the second game. The Cru will return to action at the American Southwest Conference Tournament on the campus of the University of Texas at Tyler April 30
th – May 4
th. UMHB earned the No. 3 seed and will face the University of Texas at Dallas on Wednesday, April 30
th at 7 p.m.
