BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team opened conference play with a 4-1 win over Concordia Texas Friday night in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 4-3 on the season and opened American Southwest Conference play at 1-0. With the loss, the Tornados fell to 3-2-2 overall and opened conference action at 0-1.
Cameron Shivers gave the Cru an early lead off a goal in the 9
th minute. Shivers beat the goalie in a one-on-one off an assist from
Kathryn Parker. Parker struck again in the 19
th minute, finding the right side of the goal with an assist from
Sarah Rempe. Concordia cut the lead to one off a converted penalty kick from Lena New in the 22
nd minute.
Kristen Hoelscher was the next Crusader to score, with another assist from Parker in the 61
st minute to extend UMHB's lead to 3-1.Parker increased the lead to three in the 70
th minute with another assist from Rempe, sealing the Cru's 4-1 victory.
Parker led the Cru with four shots while Shivers and Hoelscher each added three. UMHB totaled 17 shots while the Tornados had ten.
Courtney Craig earned the win in the net for the Cru, making nine saves and allowing one goal. Megan Frontiera took the loss for the Tornados, allowing four goals and making ten saves.
UMHB returns to action Friday, October 3
th in a 4 p.m. match at Louisiana College in Pineville.
