BELTON, Texas. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team defeated McMurry University 2-0 Saturday night in Belton despite an hour-long lightening delay at the start of the contest.

 

Kickoff was delayed until 8:45 due to lightening in the area. Case Carnes, the Schlotzsky's Lotz Better Player of the Game, gave UMHB a first-half lead with a goal in the 31st minute off an assist from Luke Lopez. Oliver Ortiz then gave the Cru some security in the 74th minute with an assist from Hamilton Howard. McMurry was unable to generate a scoring offense, giving UMHB the 2-0 victory.

 

Ortiz, Carnes and Julio Mar each recorded a team-high two shots while the Cru totaled nine as a team. UMHB limited McMurry to just two shots in the contest. Blake Lander earned his first win of the season in the net, making two saves in the shutout-win.

 

UMHB returns to action Friday, September 12th in a 4 p.m. match at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. The Cru will then return home to take on Austin College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 13th.
