Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team grabbed a 3-1 win over East Texas Baptist University Friday afternoon in Marshall, despite a lightning delay lasting more than two hours. The win improved the Cru to 9-3-1 on the season and 6-1 in American Southwest Conference play while the Tigers fell to 4-10 overall and 3-5 in league play.
The match remained scoreless until UMHB's
Kathryn Parker converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute to gain a 1-0 advantage.
Sarah Rempe quickly scored an insurance goal, netting a shot off an assist from
Jessie Simmonds in the 29th minute for a 2-0 lead. East Texas Baptist responded when Erin Miller scored in the 30th minute, cutting Cru leads to 2-1. Play was then suspended due to rain for over two hours before action resumed. UMHB held the 2-1 lead until the 89
th minute when
Caitlin Parr scored off an assist from
Kathryn Parker for a 3-1 victory.
Briana Hester led the Cru with five shots while Parker added three and Rempe had two. UMHB outshot the Tigers 14-7 in the match, putting nine shots on goal to ETBU's two.
Courtney Craig earned the win in the net for UMHB, allowing one goal with one save in a full contest. ETBU's Christina Salas took the loss, making six saves and allowing three goals.
The Cru continues play on Saturday, October 24
th in a 1 p.m. match at LeTourneau University in Longview. UMHB closes out the regular season next weekend with a home series against the University of Texas at Tyler and University of the Ozarks.
