Men's Basketball falls to Dallas Baptist in exhibition game

Dallas, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team could not overcome Dallas Baptist's 31-1 run to open the game as the Cru fell to the Patriots 90-56 in exhibition play Saturday night in Dallas. Since the game was an exhibition, it does not count in UMHB's win-loss record or statistics.

 

Dallas Baptist scored the game's first seven points before Sidney Deloach hit a free throw for the Cru. The Patriots then reeled off 24 straight points before Deloach broke the string with a jumper at the 12:59 mark of the first half. UMHB would heat up a bit from there and cut the lead to 51-23 at halftime. The Cru would not get any closer than that in the second half as the Patriots held on for the victory.

 

Demarius Cress topped UMHB with 29 points off the bench as he hit 8-21 from the field and 11-15 from the free-throw line. Blaine Bronnon added 12 points off the bench for the Cru. Deloach scored the first five points of the game for UMHB and finished with seven points and seven rebounds. The Cru shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half and finished at 28 percent for the game. UMHB was 3-22 from three-point range, but turned the ball over just nine times.

 

Amari Bryant hit 5-8 from three-point range to finish with a game-high 22 points for DBU. Myles Johnson added 18 points and Joey Miller chipped in 11. The Patriots out rebounded UMHB 44-26 in the game. DBU shot 39 percent from the field and hit 12-30 from beyond the arc.

 

The Cru will return to action with a non-conference road game at Southwestern University Monday night in Georgetown. That game will tip off at 6:00 PM. UMHB will then be off until taking on Belhaven University on December 3rd in Jackson, Mississippi.
