Tournament BracketTournament HistoryVideo Interview with Coach FrostBELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team will open postseason play in the American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament on Thursday on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson. The 2015 ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament will run Thursday, Nov. 5
th – Saturday, Nov. 7
th. UMHB will compete as the No. 1 seed in the West Division.
The Cru opens the tournament with a 17-10 overall record this season and 10-2 mark in conference play. Tournament play begins on Thursday, Nov. 5
th with East Division No. 2 seed East Texas Baptist taking on West Division No. 3 seed Hardin-Simmons. The winner of that match will advance to face UMHB at 5 p.m. West Division No. 2 seed Concordia Texas will open the tournament against East Division No. 3 seed U.T.-Tyler at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5
th with the winner advancing to face tournament-host East Division No. 1 seed U.T.-Dallas. The championship match will be played on Sunday, Nov. 7
th at 2 p.m. with an if-needed game to follow.
Head Coach
Rob Frost returns six members from last year's squad who won the 2014 ASC Volleyball Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the second consecutive year. Setter
Shelby Prather and middle hitter
Cheyenne Dowdey return for their senior seasons with the Cru. Prather ranks second in the ASC with 9.66 assists per set while Dowdey leads the nation with 1.70 blocks per set. Junior
Abby Voskuil and sophomore
Natasha Evans also return. Voskuil earned the program's first All-American nod last season and leads the Cru with 374 digs this season while Evans is coming off an ASC Freshman of the Year honor, ranking second on the team with 247 kills.
Frost also welcomed a solid group of freshman to this year's squad, headlined by outside hitter
Shelby Russell. Russell ranks fourth in the ASC with 319 kills this season, averaging 3.2 kills per set. She is joined by
Maddie Frerich,
Mikaela Spooner and
Sydney Stolz, who have combined for 188 kills and 100 blocks this season.
