ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team fell to No. 2 seed Hardin-Simmons University 4-0 Friday afternoon in Abilene. The loss ends UMHB's season at 12-4-1 as the Cowgirls advance to the tournament championship match.
Kami Jones scored the go-ahead goal for Hardin-Simmons in the 32
nd minute for a 1-0 lead. Kenne Kessler added an insurance goal 45 seconds later, giving the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead. Kessler added one more for the Cowgirls in the 39
th minute to give Hardin-Simmons a three-goal lead at the half. Jones added her second goal in the 56
th minute, giving Hardin-Simmons a 4-0 lead. UMHB was unable to score, giving the Cowgirls the 4-0 shutout victory.
Kathryn Parker led the Cru with five shots while
Miranda Aleman and
Briana Hester each added two. Hardin-Simmons outshot the Cru 19-11 in the match, putting seven shots on goal to the Cru's five.
Courtney Craig took the loss in the goal for the Cru, allowing four goals and making three saves in 80 minutes of play.
UMHB earned the program's second-highest win mark at 12 this season and set a new school record with 40 assists.
Sarah Rempe led the Cru with nine goals on the season while Parker had a team-high 10 assists. Craig was the leading goalkeeper, earning nine wins as UMHB tied the program's second-highest shutout total with eight.
Ashley Stenack was the lone senior on the Cru's roster, ending her four-year career with 41 wins at UMHB.
Hardin-Simmons will advance to face No. 1 seed and tournament-host University of Texas at Tyler on Sunday November 8
th in the championship match at 1 p.m. in Abilene. The 2015 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championships with the bracket to be announced on Monday, November 9
th at 12 p.m. on NCAA.com
