Offensive Coordinator Cody Fredenburg resigns to pursue opportunities outside of coaching

Belton, Texas – After four years on the coaching staff at his alma mater, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor offensive coordinator Cody Fredenburg has resigned to pursue career opportunities outside of the coaching profession. The move was announced by Cody's father, Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg, during a team meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

Cody Fredenburg spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator for UMHB and the Cru led the American Southwest Conference in scoring offense and most other offensive categories in both of those seasons. He also spent two years as a full-time assistant prior to taking over play-calling duties following the 2013 season. Cody Fredenburg also made collegiate coaching stops at Stephen F. Austin, Southern Mississippi and Oklahoma State University during his coaching career. Cody and his wife, Lindsay, have two young sons and this move will allow him to spend more time with his family. The younger Fredenburg says it was not an easy choice.

"This has been an extremely difficult decision to make because coaching is all I've ever done and all I've ever known," Cody Fredenburg said. "This is something that has been on my mind for a while now, but it is even harder when your boss is your father. I can't express how enjoyable this experience has been for me and the hardest part will be not getting to work with and see him every day."

Cody Fredenburg was a four-year letterman for the Cru as a starting quarterback and he guided UMHB to its first winning season, first conference championship and first NCAA Division III National Championships appearance. Cody was the ASC Offensive Player of the Year and was also a Gagliardi Trophy Finalist during his career at UMHB. That success translated into his coaching career at his alma mater. He was a student assistant when the Cru advanced to the Stagg Bowl in 2004 and UMHB won four consecutive ASC Championships and made four straight NCAA postseason appearances after he returned as a full-time assistant. The Cru football team posted a 48-5 record and advanced to two National Semifinals, a National Quarterfinal and the Second Round of the NCAA Division III National Championships during his tenure.

"This is a very hard day for me and I know that Cody didn't come by this decision easily," Pete Fredenburg said. "Cody loves this school and loves this program and he has done a tremendous job recruiting and coaching our kids. His mother and I support his decision and we know he will go on to great success. I am so thankful for all that he has done for this program as a player and as a coach."

The search for a replacement will begin immediately. Cody Fredenburg's successor will become just the sixth offensive coordinator in the history of UMHB football. The Cru went 11-2 overall this past season and won a share of the ASC title with a 4-1 league mark. UMHB advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the 12th straight season before falling to Linfield College 38-35 in the Quarterfinals last Saturday.
