Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team fell to the University of Texas at Tyler 73-66 Thursday evening in Belton. The loss drops the Cru to 11-11 on the season and 7-10 in American Southwest Conference action while the Patriots improved to 22-1 overall and 16-1 in conference play.
UMHB led by as many as 10 points in the first half, outscoring the Patriots 29-19 in the first 14 minutes of play. U.T.-Tyler pulled within three, but UMHB finished the half with a 9-4 run to hold a 38-30 halftime lead.
Kourtney Bevers led the Cru with nine points in the first half as UMHB out-rebounded the Patriots 26-11. U.T.-Tyler opened the second half with a 12-4 run to tie the game at 42. The Patriots then used a 6-0 run to gain advantage on UMHB and did not trail again in the contest.
Taylor Tucker led the Cru with 17 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Kourtney Bevers added 14 points while
Alyssa Dean put up nine. Dean also brought down six rebounds as UMHB out-rebounded the Patriots 47-29 in the contest. The Cru totaled two blocks and four steals, shooting 38.2 percent in the game and 80 percent from the free-throw line.
Teylor Seals led the Patriots with 31 points, followed by D'Onna Matthews with 11 and Brittany King with 10. Madison Wilson brought down a team-high five rebounds. As a team, the Patriots recorded four blocks and nine steals, forcing the Cru into 20 turnovers. U.T.-Tyler shot 43.8 percent in the game, 22.2 percent from beyond the arc and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line.
UMHB returns to action Saturday, February 14
th in a 1 p.m. home finale against University of the Ozarks. UMHB will recognize the four seniors from the 2014-15 roster at the game.
