Tournament BracketBelton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team will make its third straight appearance in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament and its 11
th overall appearance when the Cru faces Louisiana College in an ASC First Round game Thursday in Tyler. The UMHB women have an 8-10 overall record in ASC Tournament play and are the #6 seed in this year's event.
The UMHB women will enter the tournament with a 13-12 overall record and the Cru women went 9-11 in ASC play this season. The Cru women will open the tournament with a 12:00 PM first-round game against 3
rd-seeded Louisiana College (16-7). The winner of that game will move into a 5:00 PM semifinal game on Friday against the winner of the U.T.-Dallas (21-4, #2 seed) vs. Concordia Texas (9-15, #7 seed) first-round game. The other side of the bracket will see Howard Payne University (15-10, #4 seed) taking on Hardin-Simmons (12-13, #5 seed) at 5:00 on Friday and University of the Ozarks (11-14, #8 seed) facing defending ASC champion and tournament host U.T.-Tyler (24-1) at 7:30 PM. The second semifinal game will be played at 7:30 PM on Friday with the two semifinal winners meeting in the ASC Championship game at 4:00 PM on Saturday. The ASC Tournament champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
UMHB split its two regular season meetings with Louisiana College. The Cru posted a 94-87 victory over the Wildcats in Belton in December before falling to LC 68-56 in Pineville in late January.
Alyssa Dean poured in 27 points and
Taylor Tucker added 18 points and 12 rebounds in the UMHB victory.
Macy Moore was the only Cru player in doubles figures with 12 points in the loss in Pineville.
Dean leads the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game this season. Taylor is UMHB's second-leading scorer at 13.2 points per game and she pulls down a team-best 8.4 rebounds per contest. Moore is also averaging in double figures at 10.1 points per game and Megan Turner leads the Cru with 53 assists on the year. UMHB is shooting 38 percent from the field as a team on the season, but is out rebounding its opponents by an average of 10.6 boards a game.
The Cru women are 4-10 against the rest of the ASC Tournament field this season. UMHB split with Louisiana College, Hardin-Simmons, Concordia Texas and University of the Ozarks. The Cru was sept by U.T.-Tyler, U.T.-Dallas and Howard Payne University.
The UMHB women advanced to the ASC Tournament Championship game in 2014, 2006 and 2001. The Cru women have advanced to at least the second round of the ASC Tournament in five of their previous ten trips to the conference tournament.
All of the ASC Tournament games will be played at the Herrington Patriot Center on the campus of U.T.-Tyler in Tyler, Texas. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students each day. There are no tournament passes and there are no complimentary tickets for ASC Championship events.
