Abilene, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team gave up two big innings and could not overcome them as the Cru lost to McMurry University 9-4 Saturday afternoon in Abilene. UMHB had its five-game winning streak snapped and drops to 7-7 on the year with the loss. The Warhawks improve to 14-4 on the year with the victory.
Chase Burrow's RBI double gave the Cru a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Will Stafford added an RBI single in the top of the second and Burrow doubled home another run in the top of the third to give UMHB a 3-0 lead. McMurry erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third, with three of those runs coming on home runs. The Warhawks added four more runs in the fifth on the strength of a two-run homer and a two-run single. Burrow singled home another run in the top of the eighth to cut it to 9-4, but that's as close as UMHB would get.
Burrow led the Cru offense with three hits and three RBI and Dakota Parsons and Heath Spencer added two hits apiece. Kreece Cooper took the loss for UMHB to fall to 1-2 on the year. Mitch Labbie scattered nine hits over eight innings and struck out seven for McMurry to raise his record to 3-0 on the year. Four players had two hits each for the Warhawks and Casey Berryman drove in three runs.
The Cru will return to action with a three-game American Southwest Conference series at the University of the Ozarks next weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader Friday in Clarksville, Arkansas before closing out the series with a single game next Saturday.
