BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team finished a three-game sweep with University of the Ozarks, beating the Eagles 10-3. The win improved the Cru to 15-7 on the season and 15-4 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 10-16 overall and 6-14 in conference play.
Brooke Hoffsommer gave the Eagles a lead in the top of the third, scoring off an RBI single from Laken Gray to give Ozarks a one-run lead in the top of the first.
Karley Free evened the score for the Cru in the top of the first with a double to left center, scoring
Leanne Hinojosa from second.
Leah Brown followed that with a home run over the centerfield wall, scoring
Cori Drake and Free for a 4-1 UMHB lead.
Emily Marrs drove in another run with an RBI single to score
Janie Neyland, extending the Cru's lead to 5-1 after the first complete inning of play. Free again got the Cru on the board in the bottom of the second, hitting an RBI single to score Drake from third for a 6-1 lead. Ozarks scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the Cru's lead to three. Brown responded with an RBI double, scoring

Bailey Bohlken reached on an error, scoring Brown for a 8-3 lead after four innings. Brown struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning, hitting a double to score Drake and Free for a 10-3 lead and win.
Tiffany Birdwell earned the win in the circle for the Cru, pitching six innings with five hits, three runs and three strikeouts.
Karen Tennis came in to close, pitching one inning with one hit. Brown and Free led the Cru with three hits while Neyland and Marrs each added two. Brown had a game-high six RBI while Drake led the Cru with three runs. UMHB totaled 10 runs on 14 hits with four errors while Ozarks had three runs on six hits with two errors.
UMHB returns to action Tuesday, April 7
th in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Trinity University in San Antonio.
