BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team will open postseason play in the 2016 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 3
rd in Richardson.
The UMHB men earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will open against No. 6 seed UT Tyler on Thursday, Nov. 3
rd at 8 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to face No. 2 seed Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, Nov. 5
th at 2 p.m. The other quarterfinal match will be played on Thursday, Nov. 3
rd at 5 p.m. and features No. 5 seed Ozarks and No. 4 seed Concordia Texas. The winner of that match will advance to face No. 1 seed and tournament-host UT Dallas at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5
th. The championship match will be played on Sunday, Nov. 6
th at 1 p.m.
Head Coach
Brad Bankhead returns 20 letter winners from last year's squad including all-conference honorees Caleb Vandergiff,
Caleb Almanza and
Javier Zaragoza. Vandergriff a defender from Georgetown (Georgetown H.S.), is coming off a freshman campaign that earned him Defensive Freshman of the Year honors. He and Zaragoza, junior goalkeeper from San Antonio (Madison H.S.), have combined to allow just 16 goals this season as UMHB leads the ASC with the lowest goals-against average (0.92). Zaragoza ranks second in the ASC in goals against average (0.93) as UMHB's defense has recorded seven shutouts this season. Almanza, a junior midfielder from Odessa (Permian H.S.) is the anchor of UMHB's midfield with five assists in 2016.

Steven Dang. Cook, a native of Denton (Guyer H.S.) leads UMHB with seven goals and two assists while Carnes, a native of Tyler (Robert E. Lee H.S.), has six goals and four assists on the season. Lopez, a native of Abilene (Cooper H.S.) and Dang, a Plano native (West H.S.) play alongside Vandergriff and Zaragoza in UMHB's dominating defense.
