Men’s Soccer edged by UT Tyler in ASC Tournament opener

RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the University of Texas at Tyler in the opening round of the 2016 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament Thursday night in Richardson. The loss ended UMHB's season at 11-6-1 while the Patriots improved to 10-6-1 and will advance to semifinal play.
 
Samuel Huerta scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute off an assist from Leandro Fernandez, giving UT Tyler the 1-0 win. Case Carnes led UMHB with five shots followed by Martin Lopez with Cru. UMHB totaled 18 shots with three on-goal while the Patriots had 11 shots with two on-goal. Javier Zaragoza took the loss for UMHB, allowing one goal with one save. Ryan Dewalt earned the win for UT Tyler with three saves in the shutout.
 
UMHB went 11-6-1 in 2016 with a 7-2-1 record in conference play. The Cru made it to the conference tournament for the third consecutive season. The program graduates six seniors in 2016: McKenna Cook, Sean Diamond, Jordan Freeman, Eduardo Guerra, Caleb Latson and Oliver Ortiz.
