RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of Texas at Dallas Tuesday afternoon in Richardson. The loss dropped the Cru to 5-13 on the season and 4-11 in American Southwest Conference action. The Comets improved to 12-8 overall and 9-3 in league play.
The game started slowly with neither team scoring until the bottom of the fifth inning when Sara Navarro hit a two-RBI single through the right side to score Taylor Ervin and Melissa Livermore for a 2-0 advantage for the Comets. UMHB was not able to generate a scoring offense against UTD's Lauren McLeod, giving the Comets a 2-0 victory.
Dusti Douglas led the Cru with two hits followed by
Kasi Cummings with one. For the Comets, Livermore and Ervin each recorded a team-high two hits and both scored runs in the contest. UMHB's
Karen Tennis took the loss, pitching six innings with nine hits and two runs allowed. Tennis struck out four batters and walked just one. McLeod pitched a complete game for the Comets, shutting out the Cru with three hits allowed and one strikeout. The Comets totaled two runs on nine hits while UMHB recorded three hits.
UMHB resumes action on Friday, March 18
th in a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Concordia University Texas at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
