Softball falls 7-3 to University of the Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped its final game of a three-game road series at University of the Ozarks 7-3 Friday afternoon in Clarksville. The loss dropped the Cru to 9-15 on the season and 8-13 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles improved to 7-15 overall and 7-11 in league play.


Haleigh Moore scored first for the Eagles, reaching home off an error for a 1-0 Ozarks lead after the first. UMHB's Kasi Cummings responded in the top of the fourth inning, hitting a two-RBI single to left field, scoring Devon Walter and Karley Free to give UMHB a 2-1 lead. The Eagles then strung together a five-run bottom of the fourth to again gain advantage. Moore opened scoring with an RBI double to score Peyton Winkfein. Hailey Ostrander was next, scoring off an error before Hannah Oler hit a three-RBI triple, scoring Krysten Shavers, Laken Gray and Moore for a 6-2 lead. Laken Gray scored again in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-2 lead. The Cru scored one more run in the top of the seventh when Leah Brown slammed a home run to left center field, but fell by a final score of 7-3. Kourtney Cummings and Karley Free led the Cru with two hits while four other Crusaders each added one. Kasi Cummings led the Cru with two RBI while three Crusaders recorded one run each. UMHB's Karen Tennis took the loss in the circle, giving up six runs on four hits. Tennis struck out four batters and allowed just one earned run in the contest. Haley Parker pitched in relief of Tennis, going two innings with one run and three hits allowed. Abigail Mork earned the win for the Eagles, pitching a complete seven innings with three runs, eight hits and six strikeouts. UMHB totaled three runs on eight hits with three errors while the Eagles had seven runs on seven hits with one error.  
 
UMHB returns to action next weekend at Dee Dillon Field in Belton, hosting Louisiana College Friday, April 1st through Saturday, April 2nd. The series will open April 1st with a 3 p.m. doubleheader and conclude April 2nd with a noon single game.
