BELTON, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over Sul Ross State University Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 14-2-1 on the season with a 10-1-1 record in American Southwest Conference play. The Lobos fell to 8-5-1 overall and 6-4-1 in league action.
Taylor Marques gave UMHB a lead in the 30
th minute, scoring off an assist from
Caitlyn Shaughnessy for a 1-0 lead.
Zoe Elledge followed that with a goal in the 36
th minute with an assist from
Jackie Witt before the Lobos recorded an own goal in the 37
th minute for the 3-0 lead. UMHB did not allow a single shot in the second half, securing the shutout victory.
Shaughnessy led the Cru with four shots followed by
Amanda Carlough and
Chelsea Graham with three each. UMHB totaled 22 shots with 15 on goal, limiting the Lobos to just eight shots and three on goal. Ashlie Rojas took the loss for the Lobos, making 12 saves.
Emmy McMaude earned the shutout twin for the Cru, making three saves.
UMHB earned the No. 2 seed in the 2017 ASC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament and the right to host a first-round match. That game will be played on Tuesday, October 31
st at 5 p.m. at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
