Volleyball splits final day at Trinity University Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split its final day of regular season play with a 3-0 sweep of Schreiner University and a 3-1 loss to No. 3 Trinity University. UMHB moved to 25-3 on the season after dual matches.
 
UMHB earned the win over Schreiner with straight 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 set victories. Corinne Novak led the Cru with eight kills followed by Madison Welch, Miranda Klein and Mikaela Spooner with six each. Natasha Evans recorded a match-high 33 assists as UMHB hit 39 kills on 78 attacks for a .385 hitting percentage. Defensively, Haleigh Evans led with 12 digs followed by Novak and Natasha Evans with seven each. UMHB put up five team blocks and limited Schreiner to 23 kills on 95 attacks for a .063 percentage. UMHB also added four service aces in the match, led by Adrien Valdez with four.
 
The Cru took the first set off No. 3 Trinity 25-22 before falling in straight 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 sets to take the 3-1 loss. Miranda Klein led the Cru with 18 kills followed by Sarah Paolini with 10. UMHB hit 48 kills on 162 total attacks for a .136 percentage. Natasha Evans led the Cru with 39 assists. Defensively, Natasha Evans recorded 15 digs while Corinne Novak and Haleigh Evans each added 14. Paolini was the leader at the net with one solo block and four block assists. UMHB totaled 64 digs and 11 team blocks while the Tigers had 54 kills on 151 attacks with 78 digs and 11 team blocks.
 
UMHB returns to action in the 2017 ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament on Thursday, November 2nd. The Cru will compete as the West Division No. 1 seed and open against the winner of UT Tyler and Hardin-Simmons.
