ABILENE, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Trinity University in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament on Saturday, November 11th. The Cru ends their season at 16-4-1 while the Tigers move on to face Hardin-Simmons in the second round of the tournament at 19-1-0.
Chelsea Cole scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers, heading in a ball off a serve from Julia Camp for a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Julia Kelly followed that, heading in a corner kick from Hannah Booher for a 2-0 Tiger advantage in the 20th minute. Neither team was able to score again, securing the 2-0 Tiger win. Trinity outshot the Cru 11-4 in the contest, putting five shots on goal. Four different Crusaders recorded shots in the game. Emmy McMaude took the loss for UMHB, allowing two goals and making three saves in the full 90-minute contest.
UMHB earned an at-large bid to make the program's first appearance in an NCAA Championship Tournament after a 14-2 regular season and 2-1 showing in the American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Cru also made the program's first appearance in an ASC Championship match and was represented in the USC Top 25 poll for the first time in program history.
The Cru's 2017 season saw a new program record for wins in a season (16) and tied last year's mark for most shutouts in a season with 12. Freshman goalkeeper McMaude set new program individual season records for wins (15), goals-against average (0.63) and shutouts (7). Seniors Amanda Carlough, Sarah Rempe and Kristen Schultz graduate as the winningest senior class in program history.
