BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team earned an 85-58 win over Schreiner University Monday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 9-2 on the season while the Mountaineers fell to 2-5.
Schreiner jumped to an early 5-0 lead, before Kendall Rollins scored five unanswered points to tie the game at five. The Mountaineers hit another shot for a 7-5 lead but Rollins responded again, hitting another jumper and making a free throw for an 8-7 advantage. From there, UMHB went on an 11-8 run to end the first quarter with a 19-15 lead.
UMHB led for the majority of the second quarter and entered the second half up 36-34. The Cru outscored the Mountaineers 28-11 in the third quarter and finished with an 85-58 victory over Schreiner.
Rollins led the Cru with 19 points followed by Meghan Turner with 12 and Aubrie Elliott with 11. Alicia Blackwell recorded her third consecutive double-double with 10 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds. Turner went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc as UMHB shot 34.8 percent in three-pointers. The Cru recorded a 44.4 shooting percentage overall and went 11-15 in free throws. UMHB out-rebounded the Mountaineers 58-31, forcing 16 turnovers and blocking six shots.
Alina Hilliard led Schreiner with 15 points followed by Kendra Brown with 14. The Mountaineers shot 33.3 percent in the contest, 26.9 percent from the three-point line and 50 percent in foul shots. Schreiner forced 15 turnovers, recording two blocks and five steals.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, December 19th in a 3 p.m. game at Southwestern University in Georgetown.
