BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team completed a three-game sweep of University of the Ozarks with a 4-2 win Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improved to 17-11 on the season and 12-9 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 6-19 overall and 4-14 in league play.
UMHB grabbed a lead in the first inning when
Devon Walter scored on an RBI double from
Karley Free.
Connor O'Neal added one more run for the Cru in the bottom of the second inning, scoring off a wild pitch for a 2-0 advantage. Ozarks responded in the third inning when Laken Gray hit a two-RBI home run, scoring Haley Hardy for a 2-2 tie. UMHB took lead with back-to-back one-run innings in the fourth and fifth innings for the 4-2 win. Free,
Makenzi Dawson and
Linsey Tomlinson all recorded a team-high two hits while Free, Tomlinson and Drake each had an RBI.
Haley Parker earned the win in the circle for UMHB, pitching four innings with no hits or runs allowed. Parker added two strikeouts and did not walk a single batter.
CeCe Darilek started in the circle for the Cru, giving up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Courtnie Walker took the loss for Ozarks, pitching four innings with seven hits and three runs allowed. UMHB totaled four runs on nine hits while the Eagles had two runs on two hits.
UMHB returns to action next weekend in a road series at Louisiana College. The Cru opens the series with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, March 31
st and concludes with a 12 p.m. single game on Saturday, April 1
st.
