BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team opened the 2017 season with a pair of wins at the UMHB 2017 Invitational. The Cru swept Regis College in three sets before beating Susquehanna in four.
UMHB opened the day with a sweep of Regis College, beating the Pride 25-6, 26-12, 25-13.
Sarah Paolini led the Cru with seven kills, hitting .778 in the first match of her sophomore campaign.
Miranda Klein added six kills while freshman
Corinne Novak and
Madison Welch had big matches in their collegiate-openers. Novak hit .500 in the match with six kills and five digs while Welch came on strong in the third set, hitting four kills on seven attacks with two digs.
Natasha Evans anchored the Cru offensive with 18 assists. Defensively, Evans led the Cru with 11 digs while
Haleigh Evans added eight. Paolini was the leader at the net, recording four blocks as UMHB totaled eight as a team. The Cru hit .328 in the contest with 30 kills on 67 attempts. UMHB added eight aces and 40 digs, limiting the Pride to a -.117 hitting percentage and just 14 kills.
The Cru finished the day with a four-set win over Susquehanna. UMHB dropped the first set 25-23 before sweeping the final three 25-13, 25-18, 25-15. Paolini and
Maddie Frerich led the Cru with 11 kills each while
Corinne Novak added 10.
Natasha Evans assisted 33 kills as UMHB hit .248 in the match. Defensively, Evans led the Cru with seven blocks assists while Paolini and Frerich added six each.
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 22 digs in the contest. UMHB totaled 46 kills, 14 blocks, 10 aces and 51 digs. Susquehanna was limited to just 31 kills and a .017 hitting percentage
The Cru returns to action on Saturday, September 2
nd in a pair of matches to close out the UMHB 2017 Invitational. UMHB opens with a 12:30 p.m. match against UMass-Boston before facing the Pride again at 2:30 p.m.
