BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team finished the UMHB 2017 Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record, earning a pair of wins Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru beat UMass Boston 3-1 in the first match of the day before sweeping Regis College 3-0 for the second time.
UMHB opened the day with a come-from-behind win over UMass Boston. UMHB dropped the first set 25-22 and trailed early in the second before
Madison Welch served eight consecutive points to give the Cru a 21-18 lead in the second. UMHB won that set 25-21 then took command of the third and fourth sets with 25-15, 25-17 wins. Welch led the Cru with 13 kills while
Corinne Novak had 12 and
Sarah Paolini added 10.
Natasha Evans recorded a team-high 31 assists followed by
Miranda Klein with nine. Defensively, Evans led UMHB with 11 digs while
Haleigh Evans added eight. UMHB totaled seven blocks in the match, led by Frerich and
Natasha Evans with four each. UMHB totaled 48 kills on 110 attacks for a .264 hitting percentage. The Beacons had 45 kills on 112 total attacks for a .250 percentage.
The Cru took commanding lead of Regis, beating the Pride 25-17, 25-7, 25-18.
Adrien Valdez led the Cru with 13 kills while
Sydney Stolz added 10.
Natasha Evans again anchored the UMHB offense with 28 assists.
Natasha Evans and
Haleigh Evans led UMHB with 14 digs and 12 digs respectively while
Mikaela Spooner,
Sydney Stolz and
Miranda Klein each added one block.
Madison Welch served a match-high four aces followed by
Natasha Evans with three. UMHB totaled 45 kills on 96 attacks for a .344 hitting percentage while Regis had 21 kills on 89 attacks for a .101 percentage.
The Cru returns to action in the Dakotas Patriot Classic hosted by the University of Texas at Tyler. UMHB opens the tournament on Friday, September 8
th in a 3 p.m. match against Hendrix College before playing Birmingham-Southern College at 7 p.m.
