BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Concordia University Texas 2-1 Friday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 10-3 on the season while the Tornados went to 7-4-1. Both teams are now 6-2 in American Southwest Conference action.
Martin Lopez opened scoring in the ninth minute, netting a free kick for a 1-0 UMHB lead.
Steven Dang followed that with a goal in the 12
th minute, heading in a corner kick from
Rolando Nieto for a two-goal lead. The Tornados cut that lead to just one in the 14
th minute when Victor Gomez one-touched a cross from Joel Abrego. Neither team scored again, ending the game in a 2-1 brawl.
Nick Villanueva led the Cru with four shots while three other Crusaders added two. UMHB totaled 13 shots, putting six on frame. Concordia Texas totaled seven shots with four on frame.
Travis Aday earned the win in the goal for UMHB, making one save with one goal allowed. Rob Oakley took the loss for the Tornados, making four saves with two goals allowed.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 18
th in a 7:30 p.m. game against Hardin-Simmons University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
