ALPINE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team edged Sul Ross State University 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Alpine. The win improved the Cru to 10-4-2 on the season and 9-2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 9-5-0 overall and 8-3-0 in league play.
Caitlyn Shaughnessy opened scoring for the Cru in the 12
th minute, hitting a shot from 25-yards out off an assist from
Chelsea Graham. Sul Ross State responded quickly with Nuvia Guillen scoring off a pass from Aylin Villalobos. The tie held until the 66
th minute when Graham netted the game-winner off a pass from
Grace Greenly to give UMHB the 2-1 win.
Madison Link led the Cru with five shots while
Chelsea Graham added three. UMHB put nine of 15 shots on frame in the contest and limited the Lobos to just four shots on target.
Emmy McMaude earned the win in the net for the Cru, allowing one goal with three saves. Kelly Swenson took the loss for the Lobos, making seven saves with two goals allowed.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, October 30
th, hosting the first round of the 2018 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. UMHB will kick off at 5 p.m. at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton. More information about the tournament will be available on cruathletics.com.
