Women's Basketball tips off season this weekend

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team will tip off the 2018-19 season with a pair of games this weekend. The Cru will face Birmingham Southern and Oglethorpe in this weekend's Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
UMHB opens the tournament with a 4 pm start against Birmingham Southern on Saturday. The Cru will then face Oglethorpe in a 2 pm tip on Sunday. UMHB and Birmingham Southern will both open their seasons with Saturday's game while Oglethorpe is off to a 2-0 start going into this weekend's action. The UMHB women return eight letter winners and three starters from a team that advanced to the American Southwest Conference Championship Game last season. The Cru went 23-5 on the season and welcomes back four players who earned ASC All-West Division honors last year. Guard Kendall Rollins (Jr., Fulshear) was ASC West Division Player of the Year after averaging 15.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Guard Hannah Holt (Jr., Lumberton) was All-Conference and All-West Division after leading the Cru with 18.6 points per game. Guard Alicia Blackwell (Jr., McKinney) was All-West Division and also earned a spot on the West Division All-Defensive Team. Blackwell scored 10.3 points per game and led UMHB with 7.5 rebounds a contest and 129 assists. Guard Brooke Elliott (So., Georgetown) was voted to the West Division All-Freshman Team last season after scoring 2.6 points per game.
 
UMHB was picked to win the West Division in the ASC's Preseason Coaches and Media Poll. After this weekend's games, the Cru women will return home to host Texas Wesleyan in a 6 pm start on Tuesday at the Mayborn Campus Center.
