Women's Basketball tops ETBU in battle of unbeatens

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team built a 20-point first quarter lead only to see most of it disappear before the Cru rallied again for an 87-74 victory over East Texas Baptist Thursday night in Belton. UMHB improves to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the 9th-ranked Tigers to 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the ASC.
 
The Cru stormed out to a 36-13 lead after the first period, but ETBU held UMHB to just 11 points in the second quarter and closed to within three before settling for a 47-40 halftime deficit, The lead would grow to double digits again in the third period before the Tigers rallied late to cut it to 66-60. The Cru opened the fourth quarter with a 10-3 run to stretch the lead to 13 points and ETBU never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
 
Alicia Blackwell led the Cru with 25 points on 8-11 shooting and she added nine rebounds. Kendall Rollins chipped in 23 points on 7-11 shooting. Madison McCoy had 13 points and Brooke Elliott scored 10 off the bench for UMHB. The Cru shot 47 percent as a team and went 27-31 from the free-throw line.
 
Kendrick Clark topped ETBU with 21 points and eight rebounds. Amanda Wilson and Taylor Singleton scored 13 apiece for the Tigers. ETBU shot 37 percent from the field and went 5-13 from beyond the arc in the loss.
 
The Cru women return to action with a 5:30 pm tip against LeTourneau at the Mayborn Campus Center on Saturday. UMHB will then take on another nationally ranked team at U.T.-Dallas on December 8th
