DENTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not overcome cold shooting and a huge rebounding deficit as the Cru fell to Division I North Texas 75-37 in an exhibition game Saturday in Denton. As an exhibition, the game does not count in either team's won-loss record.
UMHB scored the first three points of the game and would open up an 8-4 lead before the Mean Green stormed back to retake the lead. North Texas was up 17-12 after the first period and limited the Cru to just four points in the second quarter to grab a 34-16 lead at halftime. UMHB would not get closer than 14 points in the second half as the Mean Green pulled away for the victory.
Kendall Rollins led the Cru with 19 points and she also grabbed five rebounds.
Alicia Blackwell added five points and four boards. UMHB shot just 18 percent from the field as a team and only hit 21 percent from three-point range. The Cru also turned the ball over 21 times in the loss.
Terriell Bradley led four players in double figures with 17 points for North Texas. Trena Mims added 12 points and eight rebounds. The Mean Green out rebounded UMHB 53-32 and pulled down 20 offensive boards in the game. North Texas had 28 second-chance points and shot 37 percent from the field as a team.
UMHB will open the regular season with a road trip to Alabama. The Cru will face Birmingham Southern on November 17
th and will take on Oglethorpe University on November 18
th.
