ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team grabbed a lead after doubles and added two singles wins, but lost a heartbreaker to McMurry University 5-4 Friday in Abilene.
Cole Weiss and
Jace Mahan teamed up for an 8-3 victory at #2 doubles and
Jake Boles and
Alex Mackellar grabbed a 9-8 (2) win at #3 doubles to give UMHB a 2-1 lead going into singles play. Mahan added a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3 singles and
Brian Martin took a 6-0, 6-1 decision at #4 singles. The War Hawks would win at #1, #2 and #6 singles to tie the match and clinched it with a three-set victory at #5 singles. The Cru is now 4-6 overall and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference West Division play. McMurry moves to 8-11 overall and 3-2 in the ASC West with the win.
The Cru men will close out the regular season with an 11 am match at Hardin-Simmons Saturday in Abilene. UMHB has already clinched a bid to the ASC Championship Tournament.
