BELTON, Texas – Former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football standouts Blake Jackson and Keith Reineke have signed free-agent contracts with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. The duo will join former Cru star Teidrick Smith of the Ottawa Redblacks as UMHB alums in the CFL.
Jackson was a three-year letterman for the Cru at quarterback and won Most Outstanding Player Honors in the 2016 Stagg Bowl after leading UMHB to the National Championship. He threw for 3,282 yards and 35 touchdowns and ran for 904 yards and 11 more scores as a senior. The Houston native won South Region Offensive Player of the Year honors that season. Jackson will play wide receiver for the Stampeders.
Reineke was a four-year letterman for the Cru and led UMHB in tackles as a linebacker in 2016. The McGregor native posted 121 total tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss and three interceptions that year. He was also a two-year starter at wide receiver for the Cru before making the move to defense. Reineke is expected to play safety for Calgary and a strong performance at that position in the Spring League earlier this month.
The Stampeders advanced to the Grey Cup last season and will open training camp in late spring. Calgary's 2018 regular season will open in June.
