Softball falls 7-2 to East Texas Baptist in regular season finale

MARSHALL, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team fell 7-2 to East Texas Baptist University in the final game of the 2018 regular season. The loss dropped the Cru to 28-12 on the season and 22-8 in American Southwest Conference play while the Tigers improved to 31-9 overall and 24-6 in league play.
 
Sabrina Salts homered to left field in the top of the first, batting in three RBI for a 3-0 ETBU lead. Kourtney Cummings responded with a home run for the Cru in the top of the third to cut the lead to just two runs. The Tigers scored four in the bottom of that frame with a home run from Mackenzie Anderson and a three-RBI double from Daniella Solis. UMHB scored once more in the top of the seventh but was unable to catch the Tigers. Kourtney Cummings led the Cru with two hits while Devon Walter and Makenzi Dawson each added one. Walter and Kourtney Cummings were the two Crusaders to score. Hannah Halepaska took the loss for UMHB, allowing three runs on two hits with one walk. CeCe Darilek and Karen Tennis pitched in relief, throwing a combined 5.2 innings with four this and four runs allowed. Jordan Anderson earned the win for the Tigers, throwing a complete seven innings with four hits and two runs allowed. UMHB totaled two runs on four hits with no errors while the Tigers had seven runs on six hits with one error.
 
UMHB returns to action in the 2018 American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament May 3rd-5th at the University of Texas at Tyler.
