BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team will open the 2018 season with a pair of home games this weekend at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton. The Cru will host Southwestern University on Friday, August 31
st at 7:30 p.m. and Texas Lutheran University on Saturday, September 1
st at 5 p.m.
The Cru was picked to finish second in the 2018 American Southwest Conference Preseason Poll after finishing Runners-Up a year ago. UMHB went 16-4-1 in 2017 and earned the program's first bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
Head Coach
Barry Elkins returns five All-ASC athletes from a year ago, including three USC all-region selections in
Madison Link,
Emmy McMaude and
Caitlyn Shaughnessy. Link, a senior midfielder from Tomball, Texas (Tomball H.S.), was a First Team All-West Region and First Team All-ASC selection. She played her junior year on a back line that limited opponents to just 17 goals and combined for 12 shutouts. Link also scored three goals and recorded four assists in her junior campaign. McMaude, a sophomore goalkeeper from Austin, Texas (Bowie H.S.), is entering her second season with the Cru as the reigning ASC Goalkeeper of the Year. She earned Second Team All-West Region honors and was a First Team All-ASC selection after a freshman season that recorded seven solo shutouts and 15 wins. Shaughnessy, a senior forward from Lampasas, Texas (Lampasas) was a Third Team All-West Region selection and First Team All-ASC honoree. She led the Cru with seven game-winning goals in 2017, scoring a team-high 16 goals on the year.

Taylor Marques also return after all-conference seasons in 2017. Rangel, a native of Midlothian, Texas (Midlothian H.S.) is the reigning ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. She earned Second Team All-ASC honors after leading a Crusader defense that limited opponents to a 0.78 goals-against average. Marques, a Georgetown, Texas (East View H.S.), native, was also a Second Team All-ASC selection. She started in all 20 games for the Cru, scoring seven goals with four assists and two game-winners.
