BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer teamed earned a 2-1 double-overtime win over LeTourneau University Saturday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 4-2-1 on the season and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellowjackets fell to 5-1-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Emily Blaettner put UMHB up in the 31
st minute, scoring off an assist from
Chelsea Graham. LeTourneau responded eight minutes later when Kara Gipson scored the equalizer. UMHB took 17 shots in the second period but was unable to score, forcing the game into overtime. The Cru put up two shots in the first overtime but couldn't capitalize.
Madison Link finally scored the game-winner for the Cru in the 109
th minute, netting a rebounded shot from
Saige Serigny for the 2-1 win.
Caitlyn Shaughnessy led the Cru with nine shots while Link and Graham each added five. UMHB totaled 29 shots, putting 20 on goal. The Cru defense limited the Yellowjackets to just three shots and did not allow a single shot in 18 minutes of overtime play.
Emmy McMaude earned the win in the net for the Cru, allowing one goal and making one save. Mackenzie Wilbanks took the loss for LeTourneau, making an impressive 18 saves with two goals allowed.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, September 20
th in a 5 p.m. game at the University of Texas at Tyler.
