Game Notes
BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will return home for another key American Southwest Conference contest as the Cru plays host to East Texas Baptist this Saturday. The two teams will kickoff at 2 pm at Crusader Stadium.
UMHB is coming off its second consecutive dominating performance in a 79-0 victory over McMurry last Saturday in Abilene. The Cru improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in ASC play with that win. UMHB has also recorded back-to-back shutouts and has out scored its last two opponents by a 144-0 margin. The Cru has looked progressively better the last two weeks after struggling at times in the opening two weeks. UMHB will look for continued improvement against a talented East Texas Baptist team that presents what could be the biggest challenge of the season to date for the Cru.
"Things are just going to get harder from here on out, but we are in a good spot right now," UMHB Head Coach
Pete Fredenburg said. "It is all part of the process and development of this team. ETBU has a dynamic quarterback because he can also scramble and really put pressure on a defense. Defensively, they have everything they need to make things difficult for opponents. This is going to be a big challenge and I feel like this is our toughest test so far."
UMHB extended its overall winning streak to 19 straight games with last Saturday's win over the War Hawks. The Cru has also won 36 consecutive regular season contests, 30 straight ASC games and 65 regular season home games in a row going into this week's game against the Tigers.
East Texas Baptist is 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the ASC after topping Belhaven 28-17 last week. The Tigers only win over UMHB came in a 28-21 overtime victory in the 2003 meeting at Tiger Field in Belton. That loss kept the Cru out of the playoffs for the only time since the 2000 season.
UMHB will be hosting its third annual "Touch Downs" game in connection with Down Syndrome Awareness month. Athletes with Down Syndrome will have the opportunity to score a touchdown at halftime and will also serve as cheerleaders and Sader Belles during the game. Families and caregivers of people with Down Syndrome and families of other special needs children who wish to attend the game and support the event will be admitted free to the game by referencing "Touch Downs" at the ticket gate.
