Football travels to Southwestern on Saturday

Game Notes

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will put its undefeated record and #1 national ranking on the line as the Cru hits the road for just the second time this season on Saturday. UMHB will make the short drive down I-35 to Georgetown to face Southwestern University in a 1 pm kickoff at Birkelbach Stadium.

The Cru is coming off a 50-14 victory over East Texas Baptist last Saturday. UMHB fell behind for the first time this season in that game and had its streak of consecutive shutout minutes snapped at 138, but the Cru dominated the second half to roll to the victory. UMHB is now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. Southwestern is 3-2 overall and 2-2 in ASC play and is coming off a 31-21 win at Belhaven University last Saturday. The Pirates have fought the injury bug all season, and when you mix that in with an already complicated scheme, Southwestern is a difficult team to get ready to play.

"Southwestern does so many things with formations and personnel groupings," Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. "You really have to prepare for a lot of different things. They play so hard and are coached so well. You have to make sure you get lined up correctly so you can attack and do the things we need to do to be successful. We have a lot of work to do this week to be ready for Saturday's game."

UMHB will go into Saturday's game having won 20 consecutive games overall, 37 straight regular season games and 31 ASC games in a row. The Cru leads the all-time series between the two teams 2-0 and has forced 11 turnovers and scored seven defensive and special teams touchdowns against the Pirates. UMHB won the only previous meeting in Georgetown 44-10 during the 2017 season. The Cru will also be chasing the 150th conference win in program history on Saturday.

Saturday's game will also be broadcast live on Fox Sports Radio (93.9 FM/1330 AM) and through the station's web site with the pre-game show starting at 12:30 PM. UMHB will provide free live video streaming for the game with access to the stream available at the following link: http://portal.stretchinternet.com/umhb/. Southwestern will offer live statistics through a link that will also be available on the UMHB Athletic Department website.
