Steven Dang signs professional soccer contract in Vietnam

BELTON, Texas – Former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer player Steven Dang will continue his soccer career after signing a professional contract with a soccer team in Vietnam. Dang signed a contact with Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club for the 2020 season.

"Both my parents grew up in Vietnam and it's my homeland," Dang said. "So, I decided why not check out where my roots came from and learn about my culture. Along with that, I can play the sport I love."

Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club is part of V. League 1 which is one of the top professional soccer leagues in Vietnam. The season runs February – October with a total of 14 competing teams. Dang signed with the club after a week of tryouts and meeting with the team's owner and CEO.

Dang was a four-year member of the UMHB Soccer Team and started on UMHB's back line for three seasons. He totaled 12 goals and four assists in his career as a defender, helping the Cru to 32 shutouts. Dang was a two-time USC All-Region selection and three-time First Team All-ASC honoree. He also helped the Cru to two American Southwest Conference championships and two NCAA berths during his tenure.
