Women's Basketball opens season on Saturday

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team will open the 2019-20 season with a home game against Wayland Baptist this Saturday. The Cru hosts the Flying Queens for a 5 pm start at the Mayborn Campus Center.
 
UMHB will go into the season ranked seventh in the country in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25 and the Cru was 11th in the nation in the WBCA Preseason Top 25 Poll. UMHB returns all five starters and 11 letter winners from a team that finished 27-4 and advanced to the Regional round of the NCAA Division III National Championships last season. Guard Hannah Holt (Sr., Lumberton) is a Preseason All-American after averaging 15.5 points and 5.3 rebounds last season. Forward Kendall Rollins (Sr., Fulshear) and guard Alicia Blackwell (Sr., McKinney) are both three-time All-Conference or All-Division performers. Rollins scored 12.7 points and pulled down 5.3 boards per contest while Blackwell averaged 11.0 points per game and added 92 assists and 40 steals. Guard Madison McCoy (Jr., Highland Park, Co.) led UMHB with 133 assists and center Allaira Jones (So., Gatesville) earned a spot on the ASC West Division All-Freshman Team. The Cru also brings back four other players who averaged more than seven minutes per game and added a deep and talented recruiting class. UMHB will carry 20 players on the roster going into the season opener.
 
Wayland Baptist comes into the week with a 1-1 record and the Flying Queens are ranked #5 in the country in the NAIA. Wayland Baptist will have another game under its belt before taking on UMHB as the Flying Queens will play at Our Lady of the Lake on Friday night. WBU is averaging 95.5 points per game and has five players scoring 12.5 or more points per game through the first two games of the season.

Following Saturday's game, UMHB will continue its home stand with the American Southwest Conference West Division opener. The Cru will host Concordia Texas for a 6 pm start at the Mayborn Campus Center on Tuesday (November 19th) in the conference opener for both teams.
