Volleyball splits final day of regular season

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split the final day of regular season action, falling 3-2 to Texas Lutheran University before beating Austin College 3-0.  
 
UMHB lost the first set 28-26 to Texas Lutheran University before coming back with 25-22, 25-16 wins in the second and third sets. The Bulldogs rallied late in the fourth to take a 25-23 win then sealed the match with a 15-10 victory in the fifth. Kayla Janikula and Jenna Gillean led the Cru with 14 kills each while Corinne Novak added 12 and Miranda Klein had 11. UMHB hit .166 in the match with 63 kills on 223 total attacks. Cory Jo Martin led the Cru with 53 assists. Defensively, Adrien Valdez had 28 digs followed by Novak with 25 and Gillean with 22. Hope Hoelscher led the Cru with seven blocks while Janikula added six and Martin had four. UMHB totaled 129 digs and 15 team blocks in the match, limiting the Bulldogs to a .131 hitting percentage in the match.
 
The Cru sailed to a 3-0 win over Austin College, beating the Roos 25-7, 25-14, 25-16. Novak and Gillean led the Cru with 11 kills each while Sarah Paolini added nine and Miranda Klein had seven. Martin led with 38 assists, followed by Klein with six. Defensively, Gillean led with 18 digs while Novak followed with 12. UMHB totaled 74 digs and seven team blocks in the match, limiting the Roos to a .090 hitting percentage in the match.
 
UMHB finishes the regular season at 23-8 and will return to action as the West No. 1 seed in the 2019 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament November 7th-9th on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas.
