BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team tips off the 2019-20 season on its home floor with a non-conference game this Monday, November 11
th. The Cru will welcome Schreiner University to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 6 pm start.
 
UMHB returns six lettermen and two starters from a team that won the American Southwest Conference West Division title last season. The Cru finished 21-6 overall and went 11-5 in conference play. UMHB fell in the Semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament. The Cru returns a pair of conference honorees in guard 
Sam Moore (Jr., Gonzales) and guard 
Byrale Carter (Sr., Killeen). Moore was a D3hoops.com All-Region selection and ASC All-Conference pick after leading UMHB in scoring at 19.6 points per game. Moore also grabbed 6.9 rebounds per game and shot 39.8 % from three-point range. Carter was voted ASC West Division Newcomer of the Year after scoring 10.4 points per game and adding 66 assists. He added a team-best 45 steals and earned a spot on the ASC West Division All-Defensive Team. The Cru also returns guard 
Jordan Pride and forwards 
Kendal Little, 
Pat Everett and 
Aedan Welch. UMHB will count on a recruiting class that features eight transfers and one freshman to make an immediate impact this season. UMHB was picked to successfully defend its ASC West Division title in the league's annual Preseason Coaches and Media Poll. The Cru is under the direction of Head Coach 
Ken DeWeese. DeWeese is entering his 20
th 22
nd season at UMHB and has a record of 385-184 with the Cru.
 
Schreiner is led by first-year Head Coach Marwan Elrakabawy, who took over when UMHB alum Connor Kuykendall took the Southwestern coaching job. The Mountaineers were picked to finish fifth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this season after finishing 14-12 last year. Schreiner will have two games under its belt before taking on the Cru on Monday. The Mountaineers open with games at Hardin-Simmons and McMurry this weekend in Abilene.
 
Following Monday night's season opener, UMHB will travel to North Carolina and Virginia to play three games in three days over the weekend. The Cru will also play a road game at Southwestern University before playing another contest on its home floor.
