SHERMAN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not overcome a cold shooting day as the Cru had its eight-game winning streak snapped in a 70-61 loss to Austin College Monday in Sherman. The loss drops 5
th-ranked UMHB to 8-2 on the season. The Kangaroos improve to 9-0 on the year with the victory.
The Cru managed just two points in the first four minutes of the game as Austin College jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Roos led 16-8 after the opening quarter and held a 36-29 advantage at the half. UMHB would close to within 45-40 with 3:54 left in the third period, but Austin College answered to push it back out to a 56-45 game going into the fourth. The Cru would not get closer than eight points in the final 10 minutes in the team's first loss since the season opener on November 16
th.
Allaira Jones led UMHB with 16 points and 12 rebounds and she was 7-12 from the field.
Hannah Holt added 12 points and
Madison McCoy scored 10 points for the Cru. UMHB shot just 33 percent from the field and was just 3-20 from three-point range on the day. The Cru did out rebound AC 45-35 in the loss.
Reagan Chiaverini led the Kangaroos with 16 points and she also pulled down nine rebounds. Addison Walling scored 12 points and Natalie McCoy and Sarah Gwin added 11 points apiece. Austin College shot 47 percent for the game as a team and made 7-19 from beyond the arc.
The UMHB women will return to action with a return to American Southwest Conference play later this week. The Cru will host the University of the Ozarks for a 5:30 pm start on Thursday before welcoming UT Dallas to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 1 pm tip-off on Saturday.
